If you're reading Desiree Holt, you are clearly expecting a novel that is full of steamy and inventive sex scenes, many of which venture far beyond the typical "romance" version of sex. While the title - Cocked and Loaded - seemed to indicate that a reader could expect a continuation of Holt's bread and butter, the inside of the novel did not live up to the name. True, there was plenty of sex, but there was also an extremely poorly developed suspense story that seemed to indicate Holt is looking to move away from the romance and into the suspense genre.

The sample started off well enough, with characters intriguing enough - second chance at love, bad boy turned good, spunky female down on her luck but determined to turn things around - that I downloaded the book. However, those sample chapters were the most excitement you'll read; plot development quickly turned sour, with poorly composed transitions between.
