Having read The Story of O and found it to be rich in description and intensely erotic I was totally disappointed by the sequel which was neither. Being a double spaced this book was also a lot less material for the money. It built to nothing and did little to grow the character of O. As others will be curious enough to buy and read the book anyway because of its heritage I can't blame them for it, but warn that they will be just as disappointed as I was.

Good, Nerdy Fun
I bought this based on the strength of Joey's comic, A Softer World. This book exceeded any expectations I had. It's a collection of short stories about normal people with not quite normal quirks rangeing from needing Johny Cash music to come to ghost sex. I was pleasantly surprised to find stories from male and female POV as well as a full spectrum of sexualities without bias. It was also unabashed about the actual sex. I don't recall any flower-like vaginas or wood jokes. Though I must admit that I personally found most of the stories slightly to disturbing to be arousing. Um, so in summary: super enjoyable, funny, and strange stories about sex or wanting to have sex.

If you're reading Desiree Holt, you are clearly expecting a novel that is full of steamy and inventive sex scenes, many of which venture far beyond the typical "romance" version of sex. While the title - Cocked and Loaded - seemed to indicate that a reader could expect a continuation of Holt's bread and butter, the inside of the novel did not live up to the name. True, there was plenty of sex, but there was also an extremely poorly developed suspense story that seemed to indicate Holt is looking to move away from the romance and into the suspense genre.

Well written...weakest book of the series
This is a "3 stars" compared to the other "simply" books. Usually the characters become more interesting when they have their own book in the Pleasure House series, but this one just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Paul's sexuality was a little muddy. He prefers men, yet marries a woman he loves but still craves men. I never bought Paul's desire for Lucky, so the book fell short for me.

The Pleasure House was a side note and there wasn't much in the way of "steamy" in comparison to the others. I was really looking forward to this book and it just didn't measure up to the first books...that being said, it was very well written as the other Pearce books are and a good read if just a little boring. Paul was so developed in the other books, maybe he just didn't have enough left for his own read.

BUT...I recommend the book, and will look forward to the next one in the series.

Got this out of curiosity and found it quite amusing AND "stimulating". There is some very good artwork here and the sex depictions are graphically detailed and excellently rendered. Everything is set in the dark or middle ages and the historical look of the stories is quite authentic looking (as though drawn from old Errol Flynn movies or Conan the Barbarian or Disney's Snow White). This is far more excellently rendered than the artistic crudities of, say, the "Tijuana Bibles"; much more sophisticated. Amusingly, though, there is anachronism to the "charms" of the nubile lasses getting their various orifices skewered and reamed here; they all come with contemporary-looking crotches, LOL!!! There are bald mounds of Venus, or those with Brazilian "airstrips", or little "Hitler mustaches" and whatnot.
